NOVEMBER 2017

HAVE A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

CELEBRATING OUR 31ST YEAR!

PRESIDENT MESSAGE.

November……eek! I’m running behind. Are you sure it’s not mid-September? I kind of lost August and early September to a medical time out and now I can’t catch up. That’s OK. I’m always running behind anyway. I hope you all are better organized than I am because – Thanksgiving is coming! Thanksgiving is coming!

First, don’t forget to order that all important turkey. Second, come catch your breath at our monthly meeting and find out what your Newcomer friends are doing. We have interesting speakers who are going to tell us all about their travels. Join as many of our activities as you can.

Also, remember when carving your turkey to be grateful for all you have. Family and friends count high on my list and I thank you all for your support.

See you all at Breakfast Bunch.

Love, Jacquie

DECEMBER MEETING - ANNUAL CLUB HOLIDAY PARTY:

Heads up that our annual Holiday Brunch will be held at our December Newcomers Club meeting on Tuesday, December 12th, at the West Milford Presbyterian Church at 9:30 a.m.

The party activities will start at 10 a.m. after members who have prepared dishes for our enjoyment have set the buffet for our “Holiday Brunch Feast.” As in the past, our members provide the food for this festive gathering. Quiches, casseroles, salads, muffins, desserts, and Hors D’oeuvres, as well as “Your Very Own Thing” are on the buffet menu. Beverages and paper goods are also needed.

There will be games and the raffling off of quite a few prizes consisting of jewelry and other items created by our talented Dot Mazzarisi, who generously donates these beautiful pieces. Tickets cost $1 each and can be purchased at our December meeting.

Women new to the Club but interested in finding out more about us, may attend two meetings as well as our other activities before joining.

DON'T WAIT TO LOSE WEIGHT (DoWaLoWe): Mary Loudin

DoWaLoWe is a self-help group which began in January, 2009. Each new member is asked to state the number of pounds she hopes to lose and to briefly describe her weight-loss method. DoWaLoWe has its own e-mailing list for weekly weigh-ins. Members of the group check their weight every Monday morning by noontime and then report their weight gain or loss (number of pounds) or maintenance of the same weight to all members of the group. Knowing that other friends are attempting to lose weight and reporting one's own weight control on a weekly basis have proven effective in keeping members on track. Mary Loudin is the coordinator. If an individual member does not have e-mail, she may call Mary every Monday before noon, who will then report the results to the group.

FLICK CHICKS: Dot Mazzarisi

Watch your emails for the next Flick Chicks outing to the Kinnelon theatre for a fun time at the movies. The viewing will always be for a Thursday matinee (Senior Day) when the cost is $5. Dot has been checking the schedules and the next choice may be “Murder on the Orient Express” starring Johnny Depp.

LET’S DO LUNCH: Merrilee McKittrick

Sick of turkey? For something different, the next luncheon will be on Thursday, November 30th, meeting at at the High Socie Tea House in Wayne at 12:30 p.m. for the full Queen’s Tea. Menu will include choice of tea, quiche with salad, 2 scones with clotted cream & lemon curd, 5 assorted finger sandwiches and 3 sweets. They do offer a full gluten free menu. The cost will be $36 each which includes the tax and tip. Let Merrilee know if you plan to attend.

PAY IT FORWARD: Rosemary Martin

Rosemary collects sample or full size toiletries, unused gift toothbrushes from the dentist and barely used shampoos or conditioners and similar items. These items are very much appreciated at our local women's shelter. Please contact her if you have something to contribute or bring them to a Newcomers meeting.

SUNSHINE SQUAD: Connie McHugh

If a member needs help for a SERIOUS reason, Connie will coordinate assistance from willing club volunteers.

WAYWAYANDA WALKERS: Mary Loudin

This group will continue to meet at the lake parking lot in Wawayanda State Park on Mondays at 11 a.m. Children and dogs are welcome. Park regulations require that dogs be on leashes. You do not have to call Mary if you are walking, just show up by 11 a.m.

WORKING WOMEN’S CHAT-A-BIT DINNER GROUP: Mary Loudin

This group just had a wonderful time at their fall “Halloween Witches” night at Pennings. Dinners coming up are: The Snow Bunnies in January, the April Fools in April and The Dynamic Dames in July. This group is open to all our members.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

New groups are always forming and changing around the interests of our members. If there is any other activity you would like to see implemented, please feel free to bring it up. New ideas are ALWAYS welcome.
