WEST MILFORD NEWCOMERS CLUB NEWSLETTER

OCTOBER 2017

CELEBRATING OUR 31ST YEAR!

PRESIDENT MESSAGE.

Wow! Are you sure it’s October already? I think I missed August and September. Oh well….

October has a lot to recommend it. The official Fall social whirl has begun. My calendar is filling up fast. Make sure your calendar includes Newcomer events. Join our circle of friendship and support. Come to our meetings, breakfasts, luncheons, dinners , book clubs and join our new movie group.

Now that I’m feeling better, I’m looking forward to some nice Fall walks at Wawayanda. Love that Fall smell and the crunch of the leaves under my feet. Come join me. I look forward to your company.

I want to thank you all again for the cards, flowers, phone calls and company. You brightened my days. Special thanks to Connie, who heads our “cheer up committee.” As I keep telling you all “Newcomers Rule.”

Jacquie, President for the third time

Pat will let us know by email when the next dinner is planned.

DON'T WAIT TO LOSE WEIGHT (DoWaLoWe): Mary Loudin

DoWaLoWe is a self-help group which began in January, 2009. Each new member is asked to state the number of pounds she hopes to lose and to briefly describe her weight-loss method. DoWaLoWe has its own e-mailing list for weekly weigh-ins. Members of the group check their weight every Monday morning by noontime and then report their weight gain or loss (number of pounds) or maintenance of the same weight to all members of the group. Knowing that other friends are attempting to lose weight and reporting one's own weight control on a weekly basis have proven effective in keeping members on track. Mary Loudin is the coordinator. If an individual member does not have e-mail, she may call Mary every Monday before noon, who will then report the results to the group.

FLICK CHICKS: Dot Mazzarisi

The first outing of our new Movie Group, now to be known as The Flick Chicks, was a big success! Further outings will be planned at the Kinnelon theatre, always on a Thursday (Senior Day) with a $5 admittance fee and always at the 2 p.m. matinee showing. Watch your emails for upcoming movie viewing plans.

LET’S DO LUNCH: Merrilee McKittrick

The next luncheon will be on Thursday, October 26th, meeting at the Vila Verde restaurant in Wayne for Spanish/Portuguese cusine at 12:30 p.m. Let Merrilee know if you are planning to attend.

PAY IT FORWARD: Rosemary Martin

Rosemary collects sample or full size toiletries, unused gift toothbrushes from the dentist and barely used shampoos or conditioners and similar items. These items are very much appreciated at our local women's shelter. Please contact her if you have something to contribute or bring them to a Newcomers meeting.

SUNSHINE SQUAD: Connie McHugh

If a member needs help for a SERIOUS reason, Connie will coordinate assistance from willing club volunteers.

WAYWAYANDA WALKERS: Mary Loudin

This group will continue to meet at the lake parking lot in Wawayanda State Park on Mondays at 11 a.m. Children and dogs are welcome. Park regulations require that dogs be on leashes. You do not have to call Mary if you are walking, just show up by 11 a.m.

WORKING WOMEN’S CHAT-A-BIT DINNER GROUP: Mary Loudin

In October, “The Halloween Witches” will take flight with an outing at Penning’s at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10th. This group is open to all our members. If you plan on attending, let Mary know. Other dinners to follow: The Snow Bunnies in January, the April Fools in April and The Dynamic Dames in July.

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

New groups are always forming and changing around the interests of our members. If there is any other activity you would like to see implemented, please feel free to bring it up. New ideas are ALWAYS welcome.
