JANUARY 2018

HAVE A BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL NEW YEAR ALL YEAR LONG!

CELEBRATING OUR 32nd YEAR!

PRESIDENT MESSAGE.

Welcome to 2018! May the new year bring you all good health, peace, joy and love.

Now that the social merry-go-round has stopped, what is next? Reality is about to set in. My grandma used to quote a poem which began, “Here has been dawning another blue day, think will you let it slip useless away?” Make winter plans. Some members will travel to warmer climates, some will volunteer, some will pursue new arts and crafts and some of us will diet (me).

Whatever your plans for the new year, remember to include Newcomers. All our activities, friendships and support are here to brighten your days. Please make sure to add us to your social calendar. See you at Breakfast Bunch.

Hugs,

Jacquie, President for the 3rd Time

BOOK GROUP:Carol Smith

Because we have been snowed out so many times during these months and the difficulty of parking on snowy streets, the Book Group is not meeting during January and February. However, a book may be suggested that we can discuss on-line during these months. Watch your emails.

BREAKFAST BUNCH: Mary-Ellen Snyder

This group will be meeting at the Sit N’ Chat Diner on Thursday, January 4th, meeting at the diner at 9:30 a.m.

COOKBOOK BOOK CLUB: Carol Heinz

This group is on hold and will resume at a later date.

COUPLES DINNER GROUP: Pat Kaminskyj

Pat will let us know by email when the next dinner is planned.

DON'T WAIT TO LOSE WEIGHT (DoWaLoWe): Mary Loudin

DoWaLoWe is a self-help group which began in January, 2009. Each new member is asked to state the number of pounds she hopes to lose and to briefly describe her weight-loss method. DoWaLoWe has its own e-mailing list for weekly weigh-ins. Members of the group check their weight every Monday morning by noontime and then report their weight gain or loss (number of pounds) or maintenance of the same weight to all members of the group. Knowing that other friends are attempting to lose weight and reporting one's own weight control on a weekly basis have proven effective in keeping members on track. Mary Loudin is the coordinator. If an individual member does not have e-mail, she may call Mary every Monday before noon, who will then report the results to the group.

FLICK CHICKS: Dot Mazzarisi

Watch your emails for the next Flick Chicks outing to the Kinnelon theatre for a fun time at the movies, always a matinee on a senior discount day.

LET’S DO LUNCH: Merrilee McKittrick

To keep us close during the winter months, Let’s Do Lunch will be going to the Khon Thon Thai Restaurant for some tasty Thai food on Thursday, January 25th, meeting at the restaurant at 12:30 p.m. Make sure to try their taro root ice cream – yumm! Let Merrilee know if you will be attending.

PAY IT FORWARD: Rosemary Martin

Rosemary collects sample or full size toiletries, unused gift toothbrushes from the dentist and barely used shampoos or conditioners and similar items. These items are very much appreciated at our local women's shelter. Please contact her if you have something to contribute or bring them to a Newcomers meeting.

SUNSHINE SQUAD: Connie McHugh

If a member needs help for a SERIOUS reason, Connie will coordinate assistance from willing club volunteers.

WAYWAYANDA WALKERS: Mary Loudin

This group will continue to meet at the lake parking lot in Wawayanda State Park on Mondays at 11 a.m. Children and dogs are welcome. Park regulations require that dogs be on leashes. You do not have to call Mary if you are walking, just show up by 11 a.m.

WORKING WOMEN’S CHAT-A-BIT DINNER GROUP: Mary Loudin

The Snow Bunnies will hop into Blini’s on Wednesday evening, January 10th, at 7 p.m. This group is open to all our members so come join in on a fun get-together. Let Mary know if you plan to attend,

OTHER ACTIVITIES:

New groups are always forming and changing around the interests of our members. If there is any other activity you would like to see implemented, please feel free to bring it up. New ideas are ALWAYS welcome.

Wishing you and yours the very, very best-est best always!
